Results of the Fédération des coopératives du Nouveau-Québec's Annual General Meeting

The Board of Directors of the Fédération des coopératives du Nouveau-Québec (ᐃᓚᒌᓴᕐᒃ-Ilagiisaq-FCNQ) and Cooperative delegates met in Montréal, May 15-18. The meeting included the FCNQ's 2016 financial results and progress reports from the FCNQ departments, divisions and subsidiaries, as well as reviews of their cooperative projects, financial results and projects for economic development during the FCNQ's fiscal year.

Reports from all FCNQ divisions providing services to the member cooperatives, its subsidiaries - Nunavik Petro Inc., Schefferville Petro Inc., FCNQ Construction Inc., Taqramut Transport Inc., Transport Katinniq Inc., Transport Padlayat Inc. and Voyages FCNQ Inc. – and its limited partnership Pétroles Naskinnuk LP, located in Schefferville, presented a total consolidated revenue of $242M. The General Assembly unanimously approved a return of $11.4M to the 14 member cooperatives.

The reports of the financial statements of the 14 member cooperatives showed overall revenues of $121M, an increase of 11% from the previous financial year. During 2016, the 14 cooperatives returned a total of $6.1M to their members.

An election of the Executive Committee occurs annually at the first FCNQ board meeting held at the end of the General Assembly. The following members were re-elected by acclamation: Aliva Tulugak, from Puvirnituq, as President; Charlie Tukkiapik, from Quaqtaq, as Vice-President for Ungava; Saroillie Weetaluktuk, from Inukjuak, as Vice-President for Hudson Bay. And the two Executive members are Mary Johannes, from Kuujjuaq, by election, and Maggie Saviakjuk, from Salluit, by acclamation.

The Assembly awarded five trophies to the member cooperatives. The criteria for selecting the winners are financial indicators. The Peter Murdoch Trophy for Best Performance Co-op for 2016 was awarded, for the third year in a row, to the Inukjuak Cooperative Association. The Most Improved Co-op Trophy for 2016 was awarded to the Tasiuaq Cooperative Association. This year, three additional trophies were awarded to the most improved and best performing co-ops, based on their tallied scores over the last five years. Here are the winners:

Most Supportive Cooperative, first prize - Tamusie Tulugak Cup : Inukjuak Cooperative Association

Most Supportive Cooperative, second prize - Charlie Mark Cup: Salluit Cooperative Association

Most Supportive Cooperative, third prize - Davidee Nalaktuk Cup: Kangiqsualujjuaq Cooperative Association.

On May 19th, the FCNQ celebrated its 50th anniversary with a prize draw for co-op members in the morning, as well as a gala at the Château Vaudreuil in the evening. Over 400 guests came together to mark this special occasion, honouring the vital role and success of our Nunavik cooperative movement – working together, in support of one another, to grow stronger, while leaving none behind.
